How to unzip your embroidery files with Windows Vista
Things to note: The majority of our
alphabets, fonts and monograms come in different sizes. As a measure to help
keep the files organized in a straight forward method, each size is zipped so
the alphabet is in one file. Then all the different sizes are zipped together
into a single file. This will allow you to typically have one single download
to obtain all files instead of having to download potentially hundreds of
embroidery designs one at a time.
Windows Vista has the built-in capability
to read and decompress zipped files without the need for any additional
software.
For this example, we will be working with
the Sasha Embroidery Font. The main download will be a single file in a .zip
file extension. The .zip denotes it is a zipped (compressed) file. Since the Sasha
Embroidery Font comes in 3 different sizes (1, 2 and 3 inch) there will be 3
files inside of the main file named to denote the embroidery font, font size
and font format: 8cp_sasha_1_pes.zip, 8cp_sasha_2_pes.zip and 8cp_sasha_3_pes.zip.
1.
Double left click on the zip file you wish to open
2.
Your computer will open a window. In this window, Windows Vista has unzipped the
file you just clicked on to show what is contained on the inside. You will see one of two things.
If you see
something like this, proceed to step 3.

If you see
something like this below, proceed to step 5.

3.
Since the design you are trying to open contains
multiple sizes of the alphabet you purchased, each size was placed inside of
its own zip file. Choose one of the
sizes to work with and double click on it to open it. In this example we will double click on 8cp_sasha_1_pes.zip.
4.
Double left clicking on 8cp_sasha_1_pes.zip will open a
window that looks like this:

5.
Inside are all of the embroidery designs for that font
in that particular size. At the top of
the screen you will see a button that says “Extract all files”. Left click on it. This will begin the permanent unzipping
process that will allow you to save the designs to your computer.

6.
After clicking on the “Extract all files” button, Windows
Vista will open a dialog box that will ask you where you want to extract/save
the files to.

7.
If you left click the “Browse” button. You can select the location on your computer
you wish to save the files to:

8.
Once you’ve browsed to the location you wish to save
the embroidery files. Left click the “OK”
button and you’re all done! If you left
the “Show extracted files when complete” box checked,
Windows Vista will automatically open the folder where you save the files
to. If the checkbox was not checked, you
will need to open the location up on your computer manually.
